Why would I want that? - Tea & Technology Café is a relaxed space where people of all ages can connect with UNSW researchers pioneering Artificial Intelligence [AI], virtual reality, domestic robotics, immersive media and sound experiences -- including AI companions, designed with/for older audiences.

We invite consumers of all ages, along with service-providers and business leaders to discover how technology can transform our lives in ways that we want, keeping us stimulated, active and well for longer.

The day includes:

  • 12pm Panel discussion on how AI can help tackle loneliness with Hon Sarah Kaine MLC (Chair of NSW Govt Inquiry into Loneliness), Gwenda Darling (Palawa woman; Aged Care Council of Elders), Scientia Professor Jill Bennett (director of UNSW AI-companion research program) and Tanya Petrovic (Dementia Australia) hosted by Lynne Malcolm (ABC RN All in the Mind).

All-day demos of:

  • AI companions designed to support people with life challenges, such as loneliness, anxiety, fears about falling/isolation and ageing – including Viv, the world’s first digitally embodied AI dementia peer companion
  • Virtual Reality experiences that transport you to other worlds
  • Sound environments and creative tools for music-making
  • Domestic robots
  • Create your own 3D avatar
  • Complimentary refreshments, including cake for brain health (please register for catering purposes)
