LIRRF raises funds to support scientific research at the Australian Museum's Lizard Island Research Station on the Great Barrier Reef. LIRRF raises funds to support scientific research at the Lizard Island Research Station.
Since its establishment in 1978 it has raised over $8 million dollars for this worthy cause.
The lirrf.org blog site provides accurate, interesting, easy-to-understand information on scientific research and conservation concerns relating to Australia's Great Barrier Reef. It has a particular focus on research facilitated by the Australian Museum's Lizard Island Research Station.
Mission: lirrf.org has 3 OBJECTIVES
1. COMMUNICATE THE SCIENCE: why the Great Barrier Reef is Australia’s greatest natural treasure; why scientific research is essential to help us understand and preserve its prolific marine life; what aspects of life are being discovered by that science; why the facilities provided by the Lizard Island Research Station are important for such research; and why both the facilities and the science need donor support.
2. EXTEND OUR COMMUNITY: We want to establish links with other communities and individuals who are interested in marine science and conservation on the Great Barrier Reef, including actual scientists, students, conservationists and others who value the reef as a source of livelihood, recreation or natural wonder. We hope many such people will be interested in our research projects and conservation concerns. More importantly, we want to share in their concerns and vast collective knowledge.
3. RAISE FUNDS FOR LIZARD ISLAND RESEARCH: We hope that at least a small percentage of our extended community will support this worthy cause by making a donation.
