The Art of Deep Listening Workshop

The Art of Deep Listening Workshop
26 May 2024 11:00
Royal Botanic Garden Sydney
Tickets available for both Sunday 26 May and Saturday 1 June

Our habitually poor listening proliferates in society: in relationships between partners or spouses, between parents and children, among neighbours and work colleagues, in civic life and between nations.

Biologically, our listening abilities are challenged. We listen four-times faster than most people can speak, and we struggle to speak more than 15% of what is running through our minds. Our mouths and tongues just tend to work slower than we'd like and this can sometimes overstimulate our thinking and inner-dialogue – rather than deeply listening to the world around us.

Deep listening at its best is about how consciously, deliberately and skilfully one listens.

This 2-hour session will guide participants through creative deep listening reflections and practices. The sessions will show how listening relies on a commitment to self-awareness, and how deep listening with all our senses gives one the ability to listen with less judgment, with greater empathy and with more directed and sustained attention.

Led by meditation facilitator and creative consultant Steve Pozel and Timothea Goddard, one of Australia's most highly regarded mindfulness teachers and a founder of the impactful not-for-profit OpenGround Australian Centre for Mindfulness, this session will guide you through key insights, tools and frameworks to improve your ability to listen deeply and compassionately.

Last year’s sold-out Coming to our Senses program had a tremendous response with comments like…
"I just loved connecting with nature and connecting deeper with myself"
"full of wonder, joy, curiosity and delight”
"a great balance of exploration and guidance, which made the experience enjoyable and so special"

Join The Art of Deep Listening on either Sunday 26 May and Saturday 1 June (11am-1pm) – tickets all $45 + fees
