Enabling research translation

Enabling research translation
25 September 2024
WEDNESDAY
2 p.m.

Translating research outcomes into industry innovation and government decision making poses significant challenges, partly due to the gap between academic innovation and practical application. Bridging this gap requires fostering strong partnerships, identifying and collaborating on key inputs and translating these research findings to meet practical demands.

Data can play a key role increasing the efficiency and scalability of research translation by facilitating collaboration and streamlining processes. With the advent of big data and advanced analytics, researchers can now share large datasets across institutions and industries, fostering cross-disciplinary partnerships and accelerating the development of new products and services. This does raise questions for example around the governance, sharing agreements and technical platforms between the parties involved.

As part of the ARDC Leadership Series, this session will explore some of the barriers and opportunities for effective translation of research findings into industry innovation, supporting government decision making and delivering societal benefits. Data can play a pivotal role in this process, for example in identifying key collaboration partners and ensuring that new innovations are based on a comprehensive understanding of complex systems.
