The Attenborough Effect – Shaping Our Relationship With Wild Animals

To tie in with the Museum's current exhibition Wildlife Photographer of the Year, join author Satyajit Das as he talks about his book Wild Quests.

Our knowledge of nature is moulded by images of animals and wild places in films, books and advertising. They deceive us into thinking that we know wilderness. They create an impression of abundance and untouched ecosystems at a time the natural world faces ecological calamity. Often manipulated images lull us into a false sense of security distracting us from taking action to ensure their survival.

Drawing on history, science, media and most of all direct experience, The Attenborough Effect presents a provocative and impassioned examination of the uses and abuses of images of wild animals and humankind’s relationship with the natural world.

Satyajit Das is a former banker, recognized as one of the world’s leading financial thinkers. He is the author of numerous books, including Traders, Extreme Money, Banquet of Consequences and Fortune’s Fool, which examine the intersection between money and society, and the co-author, with his partner Jade Novakovic, of In Search of the Pangolin. Together they have seen many of the planet’s emblematic mammals, nearly 5,000 species of birds and more. Das is a regular festival guest and media commentator, and he appeared in the Oscar-winning documentary Inside Job.

Copies the book will be available for purchase and be signed by the author.
