About the programme

This presentation looks at designing architecture for community across the size spectrum – from premier sporting and entertainment destination like the Singapore Sports Hub, to large-scale integrated community, sports and lifestyle hub like Our Tampines Hub and Bukit Canberra, to small-scale void-deck centres like Goodlife Makan. We will discuss the impact of design and how these developments leverage their urban context and programmatic offerings to support social and community integration, equity and inclusivity, and build social capital. The sharing also investigates the potential of these architectural prototypes – from national, regional to neighbourhood level – to serve as testbeds for urban, social and natural regeneration.

About the speaker

Seah Chee Huang is the Chief Executive Officer of DP Architects. He is a firm believer in purpose and synergy through architecture that brings positive impact and delight to everyday life. His key works includes pioneering integrated community, sports and lifestyle hubs like the Singapore Sports Hub, Our Tampines Hub and Bukit Canberra, as well as the rejuvenation of the iconic Golden Mile Complex. As CEO, Chee Huang drives DP Architects’ efforts to achieve design innovation for better-than-sustainable outcomes. He also champions social impact through design prototypes like a co-lab workplace for youth charity, Heartware Network; and Goodlife Makan, an inclusive senior activity centre which won the President’s Design Award for its progressive approach. A past-president of Singapore Institute of Architects and advocate for the architecture profession, he participates actively in the larger discourse about transformation of the built environment through contributions to journals, forums, numerous design advisory panels and committees for various agencies and institutions.
