About PLAY 2

Singapore Sketchers is thrilled to announce ”Play 2”, in collaboration with the National Library Board (NLB) of Singapore. Eight unique artists will be featured, sharing their tips and techniques, catered for every sketcher, artist and hobbyist alike. This exciting one day event is designed to share the joys of sketching, to anyone interested to play and have fun, hence the name “Play” was formed. Come PLAY with us!

The event is structured into two morning and afternoon sessions. Each session is led by different artists. Participants are free to choose any of the segments within the session that piques their interests. Please bring your own drawing materials to fully experience the programme.

 

Session 4 Segments and Speakers

Sketching Human Figures in the Urban Environment by Susan Olij

Known for her highly engaging teaching style, Susan Oliij will share her thoughts on human figures in their urban environment, in 45 minutes. Susan is not only an art educator but a visual artist specializing in capturing the essence of people through her sketches with simple yet unique line and shape techniques. You can find her on Instagram at @Olijstudio_travels for more inspiring creations.

Food Sketching by James Lim

James Lim is a creative designer by profession. He designs marketing collateral, illustrations and produces short videos on social media. In his free time, he likes to delve in his passion for art with food related subjects - which also help create content for his social media platforms. His sketchbooks are his visual diaries, capturing meals, places and people he encountered, with food being his prime subject. James will explain in his session, how to plan your sketches, trusting the sketching process and using techniques on adding depth to your works. Urban Sketching in Pen and Ink by Michael Tan

Michael Tan is a senior art teacher who is passionate about all forms of art like sketching; drawing, painting landscapes, seascapes, architecture, portraits, figure drawings and still life. He is known for his engaging teaching style and ability to simplify complex concepts, Michael will cover the use of line and shape, basic compositions and perspectives in sketching. He will also work on a series of hands-on exercises, sketching from photos with pen and ink. Michael is on Facebook as Mike Tan. You can follow and connect with him and see his artistic endeavours.

The 7 Elements of Urban Sketching by Ong Whee Teck

Ong Whee Teck, the founder of Singapore Sketchers, is a passionate educator and an author of several books, including books on sketching. Although he has retired from his profession, he still runs a training company and continues to inspire others through his art, focusing on urban scenes, still life, and figures. In just 45 minutes, Whee Teck will talk you through learning how to design your sketches, understanding the elements of design and evaluating your own works. He is on Instagram at @wheeteck and you can follow him on his artistic journeys and educational endeavours.
