In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, the Orchestral Institute is presenting a gala concert featuring Franz Joseph Haydn's oratorio, Die Schöpfung (The Creation). Join us for an exquisite evening of enchanting music and divine inspiration on April 8, 2023, at 7:30 pm in the Conservatory Concert Hall.
"In this world there are so few happy and contented people; perhaps your labour will become a source in which the audience, riddled with the anxieties of the everyday, will for a while find peace and solace." - Franz Joseph Haydn, on the inspiration for "The Creation."
Written in 1798, Die Schöpfung showcases Haydn's brilliant creativity in a style that looks back at Handel's choruses while forging new and imaginative ways to move forward from a dramatic perspective. The oratorio's libretto combines Biblical texts from Genesis and the Psalms with passages from Milton's Paradise Lost, reflecting Haydn's spiritual devotion and his embrace of the German Enlightenment.
The concert will feature the YST Chamber Singers and Voice Majors, with Jason Lai as the conductor. Tan See Huey (soprano), Zachary Dominguez (tenor), Daegyun Jeong (baritone), Lim Huishi Kira (soprano), Jason Suryaatmaja (baritone), and Chong Wai Lun (chorus master) will also perform.
Tickets for the event are available for purchase on Eventbrite for SGD 50. Please note that no children under six years of age will be allowed admission.
Join us for this special Gala Concert to celebrate the beauty of creation and the art of music. Let's bask in the joyousness of Franz Joseph Haydn's Die Schöpfung together and find peace and solace in its enchanting melodies.
