An explorer with an inquisitive heart in the realm of dance, Justyne Li crossed paths with City Contemporary Dance Company – both at the age of 45 – to jointly prelude the dance season of fall.
Harvesting the fruit from her short work Ode to Joy several years ago, Justyne Li has fine-tuned and re-created her work, before giving birth to the all-new full-length work Ode to Joy Evolving. Audiences are going to witness once again her distinctive choreographic style through the paradoxical physical condition of autonomy and being manipulated. A group of dancing bodies on stage roams in an unspecified future world to delve into the intricacies between human autonomy and ever-evolving technology.
If the mixed use of symbols and numbers appeared earlier than words as a means of communication and record, could Justyne Li’s dance be a body language to guide the exploration of the future?
