This is a 5-day retreat with residential and silent options at Changi Cove. Dr. Sara Lazar and Adj. A/Prof Angie Chew will be conducting the retreat with instructions, guidance on mindfulness practices, yoga stretching and talks.

The theme for the retreat is: The Science and Art of Happiness

The retreat is also suitable for those new to mindfulness. However, it is recommended to attend a mindfulness course at Brahm Centre for greater benefits.

If you are a seasoned mindfulness practitioner, you have the option to observe silence throughout the retreat except when you are invited to share or speak.

You are to let go the use of your mobile device for one day in order to immerse into the silence to experience the sphere of mental clarity. If there is an emergency, your family is to contact the hotel.

  • 8:30am - 9am Registration (1st day)
  • 9 am-9:30am. Introduction
  • 9:30am - 12pm Morning Session
  • 12pm - 1:30pm Lunch Break
  • 1:30pm - 6pm: Afternoon Session

28 April to 1 May

  • 8am - 9am: Breakfast (Participants with hotel accommodation)
  • 9am - 12pm Morning Session

Brahm Centre is able to hold this retreat at Changi Cove with the help of a MOH grant. This grant support subsidised tickets to Singaporean and Permanent Residents with the condition that they partake in a pre and post retreat survey.

Inaddition Singaporeans and Permanent Residents aged 50 and above enjoy National Silver Academy (NSA) subsidy for course fee (exclude meals & accommodation).

TICKET with NSA Subsidy (All tickets include daily lunch):

NSA Senior (NO Accommodation): $290 per person.

NSA Senior (With Twin Sharing Room): $690 per person.

Maximum Skillsfuture Credit claimable is $140.

Individual (With Twin Sharing Room): $1,100 per person.

Maximum Skillsfuture Credit claimable is $700.

Course fee (exclude costs of lunch & accommodation) may be offset by SkillsFuture Credit (SFC).

Payment Procedure:

  • Upon registration, course participants are to make payment for the course through Brahm Centre’s Eventbrite page.
  • If you choose to use your SkillsFuture Credit (SFC) for this course, this payment will be considered your deposit to reserve a place.
  • Participants have to claim with SFC before the course start date through the SkillsFuture portal, index.html

  • Brahm Centre will reimburse the amount that is successfully claimed upon receipt of the funds from SFC. This procedure can take up to 12 weeks from the course start date.

• Please note that payments for courses are non-refundable.• There are no make-up lessons if you miss any session.• If you miss the first session, you are allowed to proceed with the course. However, the trainer is not obligated to do a recap during the second session.• Brahm Centre reserves the right to replace a trainer, should the trainer be unable to conduct the class due to unforeseen circumstances.

RETREAT LEADERS

Dr. Sara Lazar, PhD is an Associate Researcher in the Psychiatry Department at MGH and an Assistant Professor in Psychology at HMS. Her mindfulness research aims to uncover the underlying neural processes in contemplative practice that create such incredible mental health benefits. She also co-authored the book Meditation and Psychotherapy. Dr. Lazar is an avid meditation and yoga practitioner for 25+ years. The mindfulness research coming out of her lab at Harvard has been featured in USA Today, The New York Times, CNN, and WebMD, as well as at the Boston Museum of Science. She is one of the world’s leading researchers focused on the neuroscience of meditation.

Adj. A/Prof Angie Chew is the Founder and CEO of Brahm Centre, a mental health charity with over 50 staff, dedicated to promoting happier and healthier living. In recognition of her contributions in the mental health space, she was named “The Straits Times Singaporean of the Year 2019”.

She is the first certified Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction teacher in Singapore conferred by the Mindfulness Center at Brown University School of Public Health. She is also a Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy Course teacher trained by Oxford University Mindfulness Centre.

Angie is also an Adjunct Associate Professor of Mindfulness at the National University of Singapore. She has conducted mindfulness-based workshops and courses on self-care, resilience, performance and grief management to corporates, healthcare institutions, schools, ministries, statutory boards and social service agencies.
