Manlin shall teach this course in Chinese, supplemented with English.

Li Shu (隶书), as an ancient style of Chinese calligraphy, has been regarded as the cornerstone of learning calligraphy since ancient time. In this introductory course, you shall learn and practise the style of Li Shu (隶书).

Course Outline:

  • Learn the basic strokes, structure and character of chinese calligraphy.
  • Learn rules and the 7 formulas of Li Shu writing based on Cao Quan Monument (曹全碑).
  • Complete an art work of 1 word, 4 words and 5 word couplets.

Bring Your Own Materials:

  • Plastic sheet for desk.
  • Cloth/Newspaper as backing for rice paper, Water Pot, Rag for brush cleaning.
  • Shawl/Sweater as you may feel cold.

Materials Given: Brush, Ink, Paper, Saucer.

• There are no make-up lessons if you miss any session.

• If you miss any session, you are allowed to proceed with the course. However, the trainer is not obligated to do a recap during the next session.

• Brahm Centre reserves the right to replace a trainer, should the trainer be unable to conduct the class due to unforeseen circumstances.

Trainer Bio:

Zhou Manlin is an Architecture graduate from Tsinghua University. She is a member of Life Art Society and teaches art specializing in Chinese Brush Painting, Chinese Calligraphy.
