A Folkloric Journey: Melodies of the Homeland

A Folkloric Journey: Melodies of the Homeland
31 October 2024
THURSDAY
7:30 p.m.

Embark on a vibrant musical voyage with us as we present A Folkloric Journey: Melodies of the Homeland. This concert celebrates the rich tapestry of folk-inspired music from around the world, weaving together sounds that evoke the spirit and traditions of various homelands.

The program features Smetana’s evocative Piano Trio in G minor, a masterpiece born out of deep emotion and imbued with Czech folk melodies. Continuing the journey through Eastern Europe, we explore Tchaikovsky’s lyrical Dumka and Bartók’s lively Romanian Folk Dances, which bring to life the rhythms and colors of the countryside.

We also offer a glimpse into Smetana’s more intimate side with his charming From The Homeland, before shifting focus to Asia. Here, Taiwanese composer Tyzen Hsiao’s Capriccio on a Hakka Melody brings a sense of nostalgia, while Singaporean composer Toh Yan Ee’s Ode to the Sun evokes the brilliance and warmth of Southeast Asia.

Join us for an evening of heartfelt melodies and cultural reflection as we celebrate the universal language of music, transcending borders and connecting us all to the roots of our heritage.
