Představení knihy spojené s autorským čtením Simony Koutné a editorky Susan van Veen.

Kniha Of Dogs and Daughters přináší svědectví umělkyň a spisovatelek, jejichž hlasy byly zdokumentovány a shromážděny skrze vzájemná přátelství a prostřednictvím náhodných setkání. V kombinaci s nalezenými materiály, nahlíženými psí i lidskou perspektivou, kniha redefinuje vztah matky a dcery surogátní optikou. Zkoumá obrazy blízkosti i úzkosti a násilí vyvolaného filmovými franšízami a dalšími mechanismy produkce nostalgie zaměřené na děti i ty, kteří o ně pečují.
Příspěvky výtvarnic Carmen Dusmet Carrasco a Simony Koutné a spisovatelky Susan van Veen jsou doplněny introspekcemi pamětnice Giuseppy a proloženy úryvky z novely Dodie Smith Sto a jeden dalmatinec (1956). Každý hlas zde představuje jedinečný osobní příběh rozehraný na pozadí nedostatečné sociální podpory, single rodičovství a absence pečujících osob, jež slouží jako styčný bod na cestě vnitřní emancipace.

Večer bude probíhat v češtině a angličtině.

Of Dogs and Daughters: Between Surrogate and Self

Presentation of the book with an author's reading by Simona Koutná together with the editor Susan van Veen.

Of Dogs and Daughters brings a compelling record of female artists and writers, whose voices have been documented and collected through friendships and chance encounters. Combined with found material that proposes dog-human perspectives, this book attempts to redefine the mother-daughter relationship through a surrogate lens, exploring images of closeness, of violence caused by film franchises and mechanisms of nostalgia aimed at caregivers and children.
The contributions by artists Carmen Dusmet Carrasco and Simona Koutná, and writer Susan van Veen are complemented by the introspections of memoirist Giuseppa and interlaced with passages from the novel The Hundred and One Dalmatians (1956) by Dodie Smith. Each voice represents a unique personal account against a backdrop of deficient social support, single parenthood and absent caregivers, serving as meeting points on a journey of inner emancipation.

The event will be in Czech and English.
