The Selecter

The Selecter are a British two-tone and ska revival band formed in Coventry, England in 1979. The Selecter featured a racially diverse line-up and their music was a mixture of Jamaican ska, punk and soul. The band was one of the most successful ska bands of the late 70s and early 80s and were at the forefront of the ska revival movement.

The Selecter were formed by singer Pauline Black and guitarist Neol Davies, with the help of John Bradbury (drums), Desmond Brown (keyboards), Charley Anderson (bass), and Gaps Hendrickson (vocals). The band drew on a variety of musical influences, including reggae, ska, soul, and punk. The Selecter’s music was heavily influenced by Jamaican ska, and the band was often referred to as a ‘British ska supergroup’.

The Selecter’s debut album, ‘Too Much Pressure’, was released in 1980 and featured the hit singles ‘On My Radio’ and ‘Three Minute Hero’. The album reached number 2 in the UK Albums Chart and was certified gold. The Selecter’s follow-up album, ‘Celebrate the Bullet’, was released in 1981 and featured the hit single ‘Missing Words’. The album was certified silver and reached number 12 in the UK Albums Chart.

The Selecter have continued to tour and record over the years, releasing several albums and singles. They are currently touring in support of their latest album ‘Subculture’. The band is set to perform at a number of music events throughout the year, including the Beat-Herder Festival in July and the Boomtown Fair in August.
