Colin Stetson

Colin Stetson is a Canadian musician, composer and multi-instrumentalist who is renowned for his work in the genres of rock, pop, jazz, and classical music. Stetson is widely recognized for his inventive use of circular breathing and extended techniques on the saxophone, which have earned him critical acclaim from both critics and fellow musicians alike.

Born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Stetson was exposed to music at a young age, taking up the saxophone and flute at the age of eleven. After studying jazz and classical saxophone at McGill University in Montreal, Stetson moved to New York to pursue a career in music. Since then, he has become an in-demand artist, having performed and/or recorded with a variety of renowned musicians including Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, TV on the Radio, and Tom Waits.

Stetson has released several solo albums, including 2012’s New History Warfare Vol. 3: To See More Light, which was nominated for Canada's prestigious Polaris Music Prize. His most recent album, All This I Do For Glory, was released in 2018 and features collaborations with vocalists including Moses Sumney and Sharon Van Etten.

In addition to his solo work, Stetson is also a frequent collaborator and sideman, having performed with a variety of artists including Herbie Hancock, Laurie Anderson, Feist, and The National.

As a live performer, Stetson has earned a reputation for his intense and captivating live performances. His shows often feature improvisation and extended techniques, as well as a variety of other instruments including bass clarinet, snare drum, and percussion.
