Join us to celebrate our spring issue with a performance by the issue’s cover artist, Matty Davis. Matty Davis will be performing his piece For the toward, within which he navigates crushing weight, embodied by both animate and inanimate forms that alternately threaten and support him as they attempt to endeavor.

Originally devised by Matty Davis, Kora Radella, and Will Arbery between 2015 and 2017, Davis has re-imagined For the toward for the present.

The performance will be followed by a Q&A and a reception. Complimentary cocktails and drinks will be provided by Other Half Brewing Company and Olipop until they run out!

Tickets are free but space is limited, so please RSVP to attend. This is a 21+ event.

Matty Davis is an artist and choreographer whose work investigates the tension between our fragility and our fortitude. His work frequently uses choreography as an instrument to cultivate high-stakes relationships that push himself and others to creatively face and negotiate forces that drive some of the most pressing parts of our lives: trust, risk, love, empathy, commitment, and responsibility. Over the last decade, Davis’s work has been presented by various institutions in the US and abroad, in addition to many site-specific locations integral to the conceptual core of a given work, from mountains to hurricane-churned shorelines, living rooms to the gritty concrete of New York City. Institutionally, his work has been presented by Frieze, The High Line, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, The Momentary (Bentonville, AR), the ICA Miller at Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh, PA), the Fine Arts Center at the University of Arkansas, Kanal Centre Pompidou (Brussels), Bozar (Brussels), the Palais de Tokyo (Paris), the Max Ernst Museum (Brühl), Pioneer Works (NYC), Steppenwolf Theater (Chicago), and more.

Amanita works closely with artists to mount ambitious, thoughtful, quality exhibitions. In addition to providing all around support for early-career artists, Amanita has a distinct interest in exhibitions and programming that consider historical and contemporary discourses. Amanita’s New York gallery at 313 Bowery is situated in the location formerly home to CBGB, New York's historic punk-rock nightclub.
