MISSION MENTAL HEALTH: Counseling Interventions for Veterans and Service Members

17 January 2025
FRIDAY
10 a.m.
Presenter: Brenda Everett, PhD, LPC, NCC, ALPS

This training will provide participants with a deep understanding of the specific mental health concerns prevalent among veterans and service members, including Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, substance use disorders (SUD), and traumatic brain injury (TBI). Attendees will explore the impact of combat, military culture, and service-related experiences on mental health, gaining insight into the complex factors that influence these conditions.

Additionally, the training will focus on the critical skill of building trust and rapport with military clients by hearing the rich experiences of veterans. Understanding the nuances of military culture, communicating effectively, and creating a safe, supportive therapeutic environment are essential components of success. Strategies for addressing stigma and encouraging help-seeking behavior will also be discussed.

By the end of this training, attendees will be well-prepared to address the unique mental health needs of veterans and service members, providing compassionate, effective, and culturally competent care. This training aims to inspire and empower clinicians to positively impact the lives of those who have served in the Armed Forces.

Further instructions for accessing this training (via Zoom) will be sent out in December.
