Climate Justice Lives Here: The Evolution of the People's Climate March

Climate Justice Lives Here: The Evolution of the People's Climate March
28 September 2024 2 p.m.

UPROSE’s Climate Justice Lives Here! – a Sunset Park community festival Saturday, September 28th, 2024!

Held at the end of NYC Climate Week to remind everyone that climate justice comes from frontline communities. This September also marks the 10th anniversary of the People's Climate March, an effort led by the frontline. Our festival will honor that 10th anniversary as our community and allies gather at Brooklyn Army Terminal on the waterfront where we will host a climate justice festival and proclaim that Solutions Are Local.

There will be art builds, learning circles ( as described below), and food from local vendors.

3 Learning Circles:

Just Transition
Join the "Just Transition" circle to discuss how we can transform our economy with frontline communities leading the way. Learn about the collaboration between diverse stakeholders to create a sustainable economy that leaves no one behind. Learn about the plan to decarbonize Sunset Park and about how faith calls us to climate action. Panel discussion moderated by the Center for Earth Ethics.

Fast Fashion
Are the clothes you are wearing killing you? Making you sick? Our Fast Fashion circle dives into the hidden dangers of fast fashion, from toxicity to environmental degradation. Discover how a lack of information perpetuates harmful practices and explore community-driven, generative solutions that repurpose and reduce consumption. Join us to build local economies that thrive on sharing and sustainability. Remember to bring clothing clothes for the clothing swap! (3 items max) Led by Cameron Russel

Wellness
Explore the links between environmental justice, ancestral wisdom, and wellness in our Wellness circle. This space emphasizes anti-colonial and ancestral healing practices that nurture our connection to the earth and each other. Learn about holistic approaches to health that counteract the stresses of climate change and promote resilient, thriving communities. Tent facilitated by The Amulet Fairy. Native Plants workshop by Plantxchange.
