Australia's first specialty matcha cafe While 2015 saw matcha green tea powder catapult onto the health food scene, 2016 has bigger and brighter (green) things on the horizon. Introducing Australia’s first specialty matcha café – Matcha Mylkbar – located on the bustling corner of Acland St and Carlisle St. The Matcha Mylkbar is here to inject a much-needed boost of #cleaneating creativity into the St Kilda food scene. In a bold move, it is entirely plant-based following the eating patterns common to the world’s highest longevity zones, also known as the “blue zones”. But unlike “vegan dining” as it is conventionally perceived, the Matcha Mylkbar menu has been carefully crafted to appeal to more than just the plant-based palate. With world first innovations such as Matcha Mylkbar vegan eggs™ making their debut on the menu, the satiating savoury options are as abundant and mouth-watering as the sweet treats. We have created a completely plant based egg which not only mimics the texture and “yolk” of a traditional egg but also contains the same protein and nutritional value, breaking new ground in plant-based eating. Matcha Mylkbar aims to unlock the benefits of a plant-based matcha-heavy diet without compromising on taste, substance or presentation so that vegans, vegetarians, the dietary intolerant, the dietary ignorant and the dietary indifferent alike can find something to enjoy (none of the founders being strictly vegan themselves). This is plant based eating, as you have never seen it before. As for the beverages, the eponymous matcha of course is the drink of choice featuring in many different forms across the menu. Okinawa in Japan, being one of the five “blue zones” and the city with the highest number of people living to 100, not only owes its longevity to plant based eating but also to high consumption levels of this vibrant green superfood. Matcha will feature alongside other delightful drinkies, including matcha Kombucha, beetroot lattes, and newbie on the health scene, mushroom lattes. Welcome to our world! Operating as usual
