Newport to Ballarat Steam Transfer - Friday 23rd May 2025
Steamrail Victoria invites you to travel on a one-way transfer from Newport to Ballarat via the Golden Plains and Lal Lal Forest.

On Friday 23rd May 2025, board our transfer train for the journey from Newport to Ballarat via Gheringhap. Travel via the freight only line from Geelong to Ballarat, featuring the 440 metre Moorabool Viaduct, historic bluestone stations and bridges and changing landscapes from the golden plains to the heavily forested sections near Lal Lal.
A mid afternoon arrival allows passengers to return to Melbourne on one of many V/Line services from Ballarat Railway Station.
On Train Services
Our on-train facilities include a kiosk which stocks a range of light refreshments, snacks and hot and cold drinks. A licensed bar will also be operating, serving a range of beers, wines and spirits. A range of souvenirs will also be able for purchase from our on-board store.

Explore the goldrush city of Ballarat. With the CBD only a few minutes stroll from the station, there are endless cafes, restaurants and attractions to keep everyone well fed & entertained.
