Why do (some) men hate women?

Sex Talks Live is created in partnership with The London Edition and supported by Don Julio

Violence against women and girls is a 'national emergency' according to police chiefs in the UK, with crimes including stalking, harassment, sexual assault and domestic violence affecting one in 12 women in england">span> and Wales. The number of recorded offences has grown by 37% in the past five years.

And of course this isn't a problem exclusive to the UK.

The news is awash with stories of men committing grotesque acts of violence on girls and women worldwide, from the murder of Olympic runner Rebecca Cheptegei in Kenya by her former partner, to the mass rape trial in Paris of Dominique Pelicot (a trial we have watched unfold thanks to the bravery of Gisele Pelicot. She gave up her right to anonymity to help raise more awareness of rape).

In the face of this epidemic of violence against women it is hard not to wonder: why do (some) men hate women so very much? And why don't more men speak up and speak out against this ongoing litany of crimes? Are things really getting worse, as they seem, or are we just more aware of what's happening?

In search of answers, Emma-Louise is joined for a live recording of the Sex Talks podcast by author and founder of the Everyday Sexism Project,,">span>, and Director of Facilitation at Beyond Equality, .">span>. Together they'll explore what lies behind this strand of extremism no one's talking about and what we can do to address it. Expect a frank but all the while hopeful conversation driven by curiosity and a sense of urgency that things have to get better. Now.

As ever, there will be half-priced margeritas all evening long; giveaways and Laura's book will be available for purchase after the talk too.

So, if you're feeling angry, frustrated, confused or overwhelmed in the face of the news, come and join us for an evening of solidarity and conversation.

We can't wait to see you there xxx
