The Men They Couldn't Hang is a celebrated British folk rock group which had its inception in 1984. Known for their evocative blend of rock, pop, and folk elements, they've carved out a niche for themselves in the music industry.

Founded by Stefan Cush, Paul Simmonds, Philip 'Swill' Odgers, Jon Odgers, and Shanne Bradley, who were originally inspired by punk rock, the band eventually leaned towards folk rock and pop, maintaining an ardent fan base throughout their journey. Named after the 1930s film, 'The Man They Couldn't Hang', they count among the bands who contributed to the alternative folk scene in the UK.

The band first gained widespread recognition with their single 'The Green Fields of France', which became a major hit and landed them their first televised appearance on popular British music show 'The Tube’.
