SISTERS WITH TRANSISTORS | PG | A Film by LISA ROVNER | 1hr 30 min
Sisters With Transistors follows the story of three women who played a major role in the development of electronic music. In the early days of electronic music, women were often overlooked and their contributions were not fully recognized. However, these three women - Suzanne Ciani, Delia Derbyshire, and Daphne Oram - were pioneers in the field, and their work has had a major impact on the direction of electronic music. The film chronicles their stories and explores their legacy, revealing how their work has shaped the sound of electronic music today.
With the wider social, political and cultural context of the 20th century as our backdrop, this all archival documentary reveals a unique emancipation struggle, restoring the central role of women in the history of music and society at large.
Sisters with Transistors is more than just the history of a music genre: it's the story of how we hear and the critical but little-known role female pioneers play in that story.
The screening starts at 7:30pm sharp (doors will open at 6:30pm) at The Yellow, Wembley Park.*
