RUDE 66 - WRECKLESS ERIC, JIM JONES IN AID OF MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT

RUDE 66 - WRECKLESS ERIC, JIM JONES IN AID OF MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT

Get your kicks at Rude 66 on September 27th at Walthamstow Trades Hall!

Walthamstow Rock’N’Roll Book Club is delighted to be involved in bringing you an evening of musical frolics, courtesy of co-headliners Jim Jones and Wreckless Eric plus a fine supporting cast.

It’s a gig, it’s a celebration, it’s a birthday bash, it’s a charity fund-raiser…

On March 2, 2024, East London lost a true community stalwart when Debz Ferguson died after a brutal struggle with cancer. The wife of WRNRBC regular [and occasional interlocutor], former music journalist Tom Ferguson, Debz was a much-loved local educator and much, much more.

Six months after her passing, Tom is celebrating her life and raising money for MacMillan Cancer Support by bringing together a bunch of pals to take part in a one-off night of music at the Trades Hall.

So, why Rude 66? Glad you asked… Friday Sept 27 just happens to be Tom’s 66th birthday. And the ‘Rude’ is self-explanatory.

We’re bringing you a pair of rather wonderful co-headliners on the night to help us celebrate.

There’s local hero Jim Jones, whose latest outfit the Jim Jones All Stars recently completed a UK and European tour promoting their debut album ‘Ain’t No Peril’, supporting the Black Crowes. For his return to the Trades Hall, Jim’s putting together a special set, sure to delight fans of his work from Thee Hypnotics through the Jim Jones Revue, The Righteous Mind and more…

And there’s the one and only Wreckless Eric, surfing a wave of plaudits for his most recent album ‘Leisureland’, which saw him featured on Later… with Jools Holland and in a double-page spread in the Guardian. The iconic Eric’s on a roll, with ‘Leisureland’ the latest in a string of recent albums which rate as his best work in a career stretching back to his 1977 breakthrough with the classic ‘Whole Wide World’. He’s coming back to the Trades Hall after a UK tour supporting punk veterans Stiff Little Fingers, followed by his own live shows.

And as if that wasn’t enough, we’re bringing you, from the US, a special appearance by the fabulous ‘Mod Housewife’ herself, singer/songwriter Amy Rigby. Amy’s taking time out from a busy schedule to support this event following the release of her latest album ‘Hang In There With Me’.

Oh, and there’s more… Leyton’s very own punk-folk provocateurs, Steve White & The Protest Family will be opening the live event with an acoustic set including some gems from their much-praised album ‘Trickle Down Town’.

The unexpected extra filling in this multi-tiered sandwich comesfrom Ferguson himself, with his one-off collaboration with other East London musical pals as the Sensational Tommy’s Hadafew Band. Expect a nod to some of Debz Ferguson’s old faves, including songs by Alex Harvey, the Stooges and Tom’s own contribution to 80s post-punk, A Close Watch.

Knitting the whole evening together is another Trades Hall favourite, DJ Mikki from Disco 2000, spinning select discs from across the decades – all killer, no filler.

So there you have it – great music, a superb cause and a bargainprice, with all proceeds going to charity. What are you waiting for? Click on ‘BUY’ now!!!
