Born on October 1, 1947, in Torquay, Devon, Turner was entirely self-taught when it came to playing the bass guitar. He formed Wishbone Ash in 1969 with guitarist Ted Turner and drummer Steve Upton – the band quickly gained popularity with their signature twin-guitar sound that incorporated elements of blues, rock, and jazz.
Turner's contributions to Wishbone Ash's sound were significant, not only as a bassist but also as a vocalist and songwriter.
