What Can One Do Against The Stupidity Of Men?

J. Smith Cameron enjoys a different kind of succession as she becomes the latest star of the hit series to step onto the London stage. Opposite Sir Mark Rylance, and with direction from Olivier and Tony winner Matthew Warchus, Smith Cameron will star as the titular Juno in Sean O'Casey's Juno and the Paycock.

It is a heartful dark comedy that follows matriarch Juno and her gadabout husband 'Captain' Jack Boyle (Rylance) as they receive an unexpected inheritance. Set in the family's Dublin tenement during the tumultuous early days of the Irish Civil War, this masterpiece is a testament to a mother's strength in the face of chaos - both countrywide and at home.

What is the story?

The outer turmoil of the unstable political situation in Ireland during the Civil War in the 1920s reflects the inner turmoil of a family picking up the pieces. Matriarch Juno Boyle must face a drunkard for a husband (so named the Paycock for his talent for drinking his money away), a son wounded and hiding from the authorities, and a daughter with a taste for politics. When news of a large inheritance arrives at their door, their fortunes are seemingly about to change... Tragedy and comedy live side by side in this poignant and haunting look back into Ireland's past.
