James Yorkston is a Scottish folk musician, lauded for his deeply emotive music, stirring lyrics, and intoxicating melodies. A member of the Fence Collective, an artistic community based in Fife, Scotland, Yorkston has carved a unique niche for himself in the world of folk-pop.

James Yorkston was born in Kingsbarns, a small village in Scotland, and began his musical career in the late '90s as the bassist for the indie-rock band "Huckleberry", which achieved moderate success in Scotland. He took the dive into solo work in 2001, signing with the Domino Records label after he was discovered by John Martyn, a fellow musician, during a local performance.

Unveiling his knack for folk-pop, Yorkston released his debut album "Moving Up Country" in 2002.
