As part of the Women in Art series of talks, independent art consultant and art dealer Christina Cadogan will talk about innovative women artists working in the Nordic countries in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. This was a time when women fought to be taken seriously as artists and often worked on the periphery of their male contemporaries. Artists discussed will include Hilma af Klint, Karin Larsson and Helene Schjerfbeck and more.

The late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries were pivotal for women artists in the Nordic countries, as they navigated a challenging landscape to assert their identities and talents amidst societal constraints. Many women artists during this period exhibited remarkable innovation and resilience.

These women, among others, challenged the artistic conventions of their era and paved the way for future generations of female artists. Their contributions are now being increasingly recognized and celebrated, offering a richer understanding of the artistic landscape of the Nordic countries during this transformative period.
