Formed initially in 2005 by three Parisian music enthusiasts, Charles Delaporte (double bass, synth), Arnaud Vial (guitar, synth), and Hugues Payen (violin, programming), Caravan Palace soon took shape, inspired by their shared passion for electronic music and their fascination with jazz of the '20s and '30s.
The trio started work on creating tracks for silent pornographic movies, combining elements of their favorite genres. Their music successfully captured the essence of old-style jazz and the lively beats of electronic music, forming an entirely unique genre, electro-swing.
