Biological Making Workshop 2024

Biological Making Workshop 2024
22 October 2024
TUESDAY
1 p.m.

This workshop will bring together people, ideas and activities surrounding biological making, from both the Crick, its partner universities, and the wider research community.

We will focus on technological development of tools, protocols, and experimental setups for biomedical research and discuss future developments. This includes but is not limited to microfluidics, biomaterial and bioprinting for in-vitro modelling on the one hand, and system engineering, electronics, programming for entire set up on the other hand, applied in various fields from cell development, mechanobiology, cancer research to neuroscience. This year it will be a hybrid event, followed by an in-person networking event for participants on-site.

Keynote: David Beebe, Professor at the University of Wisconsin and Chief Scientific Officer at Flambeau diagnostics

“Engineered small scale systems: from cell biology to clinical trials on a chip”

David runs the Microtechnology, Medicine and Biology Lab which is focused on the novel and simple use of microscale physics and phenomena to create tools and methods to further biological and medical goals. Ranging from basic science to research tools to diagnostics, they have a particular interested in the fields of cancer, inflammation and multi kingdom interactions. The MMB lab is multidisciplinary and collaborative, working across disciplines and disease boundaries to create solutions that can be translated into widespread use.

David is also Chief Scientific Officer of Flambeau Diagnostics, where new micro-engineering technologies enable diagnostic systems with breakthrough functionality and simplicity
