A Lunar Society History Event - Writing the History of Birmingham

A Lunar Society History Event - Writing the History of Birmingham
15 January 2025 6 p.m.

Richard Vinen published Second City: How Birmingham Forged Modern Britain with Allen Lane in 2022. In this talk he will reflect on writing the history of Birmingham. He will talk about what he sought to do with his own book but also, more generally, about how the history of Birmingham has been seen by other writers. He will also discuss how he might write the history of Birmingham differently if he were to do it again and how his views have changed since he wrote his book.

Biography

Richard Vinen was born in 1963 in Birmingham and grew up in the city – in Middle Park Rd, B29 4BJ, to be precise. He has lived in London since 1991, where he teaches history at King’s College London.
