SomoS Arts, in collaboration with Curator-in-Residence dani neira, is pleased to announce the opening reception of the exhibition ‘worm hole in star‘, featuring the video, installation, and performance works of artists jiawen uffline, Lena Becerra, Lucila Sancineti, and Maria Kobylenko.
Interpreting wormholes as both the tunnels burrowed by critters and the hypothetical connection in space-time, the exhibition conceptualizes wormholes as pathways to the “otherwise.” Through this speculative lens, the artists’ works explore relationships between bodies, environments, and technologies from multiple queer and feminist perspectives. Attuned to human and non-human relationalities, the works find kinship with bugs, pests, and parasites as abject figures associated with disruption, contamination, and mutation. Burrowing toward social and political alternatives, a porous and interdependent “otherwise” takes form through leaking entities, hybrid creatures, suspended cocoons, and microscopic ecosystems. Akin to an "instar" — the stage of an arthropod between periods of moulting — worm hole in star embraces an ambiguous state of becoming.
