SomoS Arts is proud to present Venus Without Furs, a poetry reading and artist talk with Gabrielle Everall, Australian poet, performer, and current SomoS Artist-in-Residence.
Everall brings her sharp, fearless poetic voice to Berlin with a reading from her latest collection, Venus Without Furs, a provocative feminist reimagining of Leopold von Sacher-Masoch’s infamous Venus in Furs. Her revision, told from the voice of “Severin as a She”, confronts the patriarchy with wit, rage, and radical honesty. As much an act of defiance as it is literary brilliance, the book subverts the masochistic ideal of submission, exposing the tension between desire, power, and autonomy.
The evening will feature selected readings from Venus Without Furs and some of her newest work, followed by an artist talk, moderated by Berlin-based curator and researcher Daisy Nikoloska. Everall will discuss her approach to poetic voice, trauma as text, and feminist rebellion through language. The event offers a raw, electric exploration of womanhood, queerness, and psychological resistance. Attendees are invited to witness and engage with a literary voice that refuses silence.
