SomoS Arts is pleased to announce an exclusive artist talk with Sydney-based Australian painter Joshua Charadia (b. 1996), whose introspective works capture the hidden allure of industrial and urban landscapes, balancing realism with haunting atmospheric depth. Moderated by Paulus Fugers, Senior Curator and Director of SomoS, this engaging conversation will provide an intimate look into Charadia’s artistic journey, thematic focus, and residency project in Berlin, specifically his introspective studies on the urban environment.

Charadia is an emerging voice within contemporary Australian art, known for his meticulous draftsmanship and nuanced use of light and shadow. Through painting and drawing, he examines the quiet beauty of urban environments often dismissed as utilitarian or mundane, reframing them as sites of emotional resonance and philosophical inquiry.

During his three-month residency at SomoS, Charadia has been deeply inspired by Berlin’s dynamic urban culture. Exploring neighborhoods at dusk and night, he documents fleeting moments through photography and video, which form the foundation of his new series. This latest series of work builds upon his established themes of motion, perspective, and light, while incorporating a more diaristic and self-reflexive focus.

Charadia’s talk will delve into his evolving relationship with, his artistic techniques, and the influence of Berlin on his practice. Highlights will include discussions of his ongoing series, building upon themes explored throughout his career, where motion blur and chiaroscuro transform familiar urban spaces into atmospheric and emotionally charged terrains.

Join us for this compelling exploration of Charadia’s work, motivations, and insights into the intersection of Romanticism and contemporary urban life. A Q&A session with the artist will follow the discussion, as well as a display of his work, both offering attendees the opportunity to engage directly with Charadia’s creative process.
