SomoS Arts warmly invites you to a workshop exploring the intricate art of 3D Decoupage, led by Mexican visual artist Christopher Houweling.

Introduction:

Three-dimensional decoupage, historically known as Vue d’Optique or Paper Tole, is the meticulous craft of constructing three-dimensional images from flat prints or drawings. By carefully cutting, shaping, and layering multiple paper elements, artists transform static images into dynamic, spatially rich compositions. This traditional craft involves a detailed process beginning with four or more layers of a single image. Pieces are intricately cut from background to foreground, each precisely shaped to amplify the realism and depth of the final assembled artwork.

The Workshop:

Christopher Houweling will present his distinctive ‘3D-cut’ technique, contextualizing it within his ongoing artistic exploration. Participants will gain firsthand insights into his recent installation, Molécula, a sophisticated paper-based artwork inspired by interconnected natural systems. Integrating handcrafted paper structures with elements of light, mapping, sound, and movement, Molécula functions as an evolving, interactive installation that engages viewers in continuous dialogue with its environment.

 About the Artist:

Christopher Houweling‘s artistic exploration traverses themes of human perception, nature, and digital technology. Merging organic forms with digital aesthetics, he designs immersive, multi-sensory experiences that blur distinctions between physical and virtual realities. His intricate visual compositions stem from detailed observations of natural patterns, inviting profound emotional and contemplative responses.
