Artist Talk / Installation - Furkan Depeli and Daisy Nikoloska
1 November 2024 19:00

SomoS Arts, Kottbusser Damm 95, 10967 Berlin, Germany, Berlin Artist Talk and Installation by Furkan Depeli Moderated by Art Historian Daisy Nikoloska SomoS is pleased to present an artist talk and installation by distinguished Turkish sculptor Furkan Depeli moderated by art historian Daisy Nikoloska. Renowned for his innovative use of marble steel and light Depeli transcends material boundaries to evoke profound philosophical meditations on existence temporality and selfhood seamlessly translating abstract thought into captivating physical forms. His sculptural explorations demonstrate art's transformative power and capacity to reshape perception and spatial understanding.

Drawing inspiration from the ancient Greek philosophers Parmenides and Heraclitus Depeli’s work delves into themes of being and transformation guiding audiences toward reflections on identity within the contemporary urban landscape. Supported by Demirören Mydia his residency at SomoS has enabled a fruitful exploration into new materials—glass aluminum and beyond—as he created a marble centerpiece inspired by “Kairos” the opportune moment held within the act of creation and “Khôra” a liminal third realm bridging being and becoming. Surrounded by the debris of its creation the sensuous and mysterious sculpture is embedded within a multi-channel video installation that incorporates 3D renderings documenting its conception and metamorphosis immersing viewers in a multi-sensory experience that underlines the work's metaphysical dimensions.

In dialogue with Nikoloska Depeli will discuss sculpture’s potential as a conduit between art and ontology examining themes of urban experience temporality and metaphysical inquiry. This event free and open to the public invites attendees to engage with Depeli's interdisciplinary practice illuminating the intersection of philosophy contemporary sculpture and media art.
